Feminest – 2011

Mixed-media site specific work.
Collaboration with Kristin Underhill.

Feminest is statement about domesticity and the endless endeavor to maintain an orderly living environment.  Whether one embraces the quotidian, or does so out of a sense of obligation, the responsibilities are nonetheless repetitive, endless, and thankless.

This sculptural project consisted of a nest form constructed around a welded metal armature, and woven with organic materials and found objects.  The latter included items associated with domestic activity:  kitchen utensils, sewing implements, and tools. From a distance the nest appeared organic in both color and texture, with the found materials apparent only upon closer inspection.
